Modi – A Magic Wand?

I was with an Indian HR guy a few days ago and quite naturally the topic of Narendra Modi’s massive victory crept into the conversation. This Indian Bhai was quite ecstatic in his praise for Modi. ‘Already the stock market has hit a new record high’ he gloated and I thought to myself ‘Right: the capitalists are already raking in the shekels while the poor are wondering whether they will get the toilets Modi promised them’. But courtesy prevented me from giving expression to my thoughts.

The other day I came across an article that appeared in The Island titled ‘Buddha Sasana Ministry Invasion is a Rehearsal for Regime Change’ and was horrified to find the writer had casually justified the arson attack on a shop in Aluthgama owned by Muslims by claiming that this had happened because a young Sinhala Buddhist boy had been raped by the owner inside the shop.

The Middle East: two state trap

This might sound strange. But ever since 'peace' talks began between the Palestinians and the Israelis, the Jewish state has built more settlements on land stolen from the Palestinians and has continued its campaign to kill as many Palestinians as it can. Annapolis is a recent reminder that proves the point. Even before the Palestinian peace negotiators could creep back into their refugee camps, the Zionist state of Israel announced it was going to build three hundred more units in occupied Palestine. With this announcement Israel's real intentions - or its ulterior motives - in peace dealing lay bare for the whole world to see.

What instantly came to my mind when I read Shenali Waduge’s article on animal sacrifice was a scene from an old movie where we had the fascist Adolf Hitler furiously slamming his desk with his fist, his face  as hideously contorted as you can imagine, saying ‘It is NOT right’.
